LCL gets Miraflores environmental permit

Miraflores hosts 870,000oz of the company's 2.6Moz Quinchia gold project. LCL also owns the Tesorito and Dosquebradas deposits, which form part of its Quinchia project.

The EIA approval by the Risaralda environmental authority CARDER is the final substantial approval required for the development of Miraflores.

A  2017 feasibility study on Miraflores detailed an underground mining operation using the retreat longhole open stope method with partial backfill to feed a 470,000tpa processing facility and produce 45,000ozpa of gold and 22,600ozpa of silver over about 9.5 years.

"We can build upon the Miraflores approvals in the future and apply the same standards and rigour to submissions for the Quinchia gold project development. We see the awarding of the environmental licence as further evidence of an improving working relationship between the mining industry and government," said LCL managing director Jason Stirbinskis.

The Miraflores environmental licence follows the award of a similar approval in July to Aris Mining for its Marmato underground mining project in Caldas, some 45km to the northeast.

The $280 million underground mine will provide access to the wider porphyry mineralisation below the existing small-scale Upper Mine at Marmato, allowing for bulk mining and the production of 162,000ozpa over a nearly 20-year mine life.
